Help with Glean for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Frequently Asked Questions
iCloud sync isn't working. What should I check?
Glean uses Apple's iCloud to sync your clipboard history across devices. If sync isn't working:
- Confirm you are signed in to the same Apple ID on all your devices.
- On each device, open Settings → [your name] → iCloud and ensure iCloud Drive is enabled and Glean is allowed to sync.
- Make sure you have available iCloud storage. Sync silently fails when your iCloud is full.
- Sync runs over the network — try toggling Wi-Fi off and on, or relaunching the app.
All sync data is stored in your private CloudKit container. We have no access to it; we cannot debug your data on our end.
The iOS keyboard extension doesn't show my history.
The Glean keyboard extension requires "Allow Full Access" to read your synchronized clipboard history. This is an iOS technical requirement for keyboard extensions to access shared app data.
To enable: open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Glean → Allow Full Access.
For a detailed explanation of what Full Access means in Glean — and what it does not mean — see our Privacy Policy, Section 4.2.
How do I use Glean Stack on Mac?
Glean Stack is a Mac-only feature for batch copying and ordered pasting. Use it like this:
- Press ⇧⌘C to summon Stack.
- Press ⌘C repeatedly to add items to the stack — each copy is appended, not overwritten.
- Press ⌘V to paste in the order you copied.
Stack is ideal for moving multiple snippets between documents, transferring data into spreadsheet cells row by row, or filling forms.
I copied something but it didn't appear in Glean. Why?
A few common causes:
- iOS background restrictions. If Glean has not been launched for an extended period, iOS may suspend its background activity. Open the app once to refresh.
- The "paste" notification is not the same as a "save" event. Glean only saves what you actively copy — it does not record what you paste.
- Apps that mark content as "do not capture." Some apps (banking, password managers) explicitly mark clipboard content as private, and iOS prevents Glean from saving it. This is intentional system behavior, not a bug.
How do I permanently delete all my data?
Because Glean stores all data only on your device and in your private iCloud container, you have full control:
- Delete items inside the app: in Glean's history list, enter selection mode, choose the items you want to remove (or select all), and delete.
- Remove all iCloud-synced data: in Glean's sync settings, tap Delete iCloud Data. Available on both iOS and Mac.
- Uninstall: deleting Glean from each device, combined with the steps above, removes all traces of your Glean data.
There is no server-side deletion to perform — we have no servers.
Which iOS and macOS versions does Glean support?
Glean supports iOS 18 and later, iPadOS 18 and later, and macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later. We may raise these minimums as new OS versions become standard. Existing installations on older systems continue to work but will not receive new features.
